Energy Bill Lengthens Daylight Saving Time by 2 Months

CNN reports that a new energy bill in Congress includes an extension of daylight savings time to begin on the first Sunday in March and end on the last Sunday in November.

As one Congressmen states:

"The more daylight we have, the less electricity we use"

I think he may have forgotten that although we gain an hour in the evening, we lose an hour in the morning. Unfortunately, mankind does not have the power to change the Earth's rotation to optimize daylight....

In my opinion, daylight savings time does nothing to save energy. This article also makes this point. It may be good if you like to do things outside in the evenings. But that's about it.

Comments:
They should just make a federal law that mandates everyone wake up at 5:00am. They could enforce it with death squads that would roam the streets at daybreak. Eventually, we would evolve into a nation of early risers.

Random Comment about an archived comment you made 2 years ago. The thought was titled Engineers and tattoos. I hate to break it to you but I am a mechanical engineer working on my Masters in solid mechanics and well I have partial sleeves. Meaning I am tattooed over most of my arms. Yes duirng an improtant meeting or an interview I wear long sleeves, but that situation is no different for me If I did not have them, because one would have to wear a suit anyway. Yes typically engineers do not have tattoos, but I want to welcome you into a new age. The future of our society and trade are no longer defined by classic ideals of what they should be. We are moving into an age in which classic values and ideals are on their way out. A tattoo no longer means a person is a criminal or drain on society. Anyway I should probably end this rant about an article you published 2 years ago, I just thought you would be interested in another opinion.

Also on a side note, Greg Graffin, the lead singer of Punk band Bad Religion is as a PHD in Religion and Philosophy and has a Master of Science in evolutionary biology. So the academic world is changing as well.

In the summer months (i.e. 11 months of the year) I can't wait for the sun to go down because it's so f*in hot here. One extra hour of death heat will push me towards insanity by Sept. 1.
